When LEKO Group constructed its new headquarters in Kokemäki, they needed a comprehensive partner rather than just an interior architect. Scope handled the workspace design and managed project execution right through to turn-key delivery.

The LEKO Group consists of a heavy engineering workshop, industrial design services experts, and groups developing their own products. The new headquarters built in Kokemäki was a major step for them, and an opportunity to create a space for employees and visitors that reflects the company’s renewal under fourth-generation leadership.

CFO Anu Lehtonen recalls how it all started:

We had been talking about new premises for over ten years. When the new build project finally launched in 2023, I quickly realized we couldn’t handle this alone. I can say what I like and what I don’t, but that’s where my expertise ends. Having an interior architect was indispensable.

When partnership just feels right

Anu asked a familiar building architect to recommend an interior designer. Since a suitable one wasn’t found, she ended up searching for one herself.

– I searched on Google across Satakunta and Helsinki, and Scope Design popped up right away. I sent a contact request and got a reply in under an hour. That alone felt right. When we visited Scope’s office, I knew everything clicked. Jenni from Scope was involved from the start and we spoke the same language immediately.

Turnkey service with zero hassle

For LEKO Group, it was crucial that the project was executed as a turn-key delivery.

– Because it was a new build project, I knew I couldn’t allocate enough of my own time to it. It was fantastic that Scope handled everything: schedules, procurement, deliveries, and even hanging the curtains. I only had to share what I liked, and they did the rest. Luckily, Scope’s team are also experts at reading people.

Cooperation with construction contractors was equally smooth: Scope’s plans were followed from the start, and according to Anu, contractors were relieved to have a professional in charge of the details.

Space for the people: “We are like a big family”

The starting point for designing LEKO Group’s office was not so much client visitors, but employee wellbeing.

– We are in Kokemäki and recruitment is challenging. We wanted visitors to feel on their very first visit that this is a great place to work. Our team of 16 is like a big family, so it was important that everyone had their own workstations alongside shared spaces.

The result was a versatile workspace: quiet zones, Teams rooms, an impressive meeting room—and a welcoming lounge as the heart of the office.

– Within the very first month, we noticed how the lounge transformed our daily routines. Coffee used to be had at desks; now people sit on the sofas and talk more freely. It reduces stress and builds community.

Functionality, aesthetics and surprises

Scope’s plans also brought forward insights that LEKO Group wouldn’t have realized on their own.

– The upstairs lobby was originally wasted space, but with Scope’s help, it became one of our best areas. And the material combinations—unbelievable how many different shades and surfaces were tied into one cohesive whole.

Anu laughs, saying that even her family members are smitten:

– My child asked if we could hold their birthday party here!

”There is nothing negative to say”

According to Anu, the collaboration was characterized by ease and peace of mind.

– If anyone asks if there was anything negative, I answer that I can’t think of anything. The project didn’t stress us out at all; on the contrary, it was enjoyable!

She also emphasizes cost-efficiency:

– Many ask if hiring an interior architect was expensive. I don’t think so. It was even more affordable than I expected because we saved so much time and could focus on our core work.

Final result: LEKO Group vol. 2

The new office is a concrete sign of the company’s new era.

– We wanted this to be LEKO Group vol. 2. We have a young organization with fourth-generation leadership. Now it shows in the spaces: natural and durable materials, spacious workstations, community. This is far better than we ever dreamed.

Visitors have described the space as timeless and home-like. Anu summarizes the feeling simply:

– I am proud of our office. It’s a place where it is a pleasure to arrive every day.
